Facebook Comment Automation Setup - Complete Guide

October 30, 202517 min read

Turn Facebook comments into customer conversations automatically. When someone comments a keyword on your post (like "DROPS" for Slenderiiz info), Pipeline Funnels instantly replies publicly AND sends them a private Messenger DM with your product info, discount code, or lead magnet. Setup takes 10-15 minutes and includes interactive buttons, file attachments, and multi-step conversations.

Why This Matters for Your Business

Facebook is where your warm market already hangs out. Your friends, family, and existing network are scrolling Facebook every day. When you post about your PartnerCo products and someone comments, they're raising their hand saying "I'm interested!" This automation makes sure you never miss that moment—even if you're at work, running errands, or sleeping.

Turn one post into dozens of conversations. Instead of manually replying to every person who comments "interested" or "tell me more," your automation handles the first response and sends them exactly what they need. You can focus on the warm follow-up conversations while the automation does the repetitive work.

Look professional with instant responses. When someone comments and gets a helpful reply within seconds, they see you as organized and on top of your business. No more "Sorry for the late reply!" messages days later.

Capture leads you'd otherwise lose. How many times has someone commented on your post, and you forgot to follow up? Or you saw it but got distracted? Automation means every interested person gets your attention, and their information is saved in your Pipeline Funnels CRM automatically.

Before You Start - What You'll Need

Make sure you have these ready before diving in:

A Facebook Business Page (not just a personal profile—automations require a Business Page)
Admin access to that Business Page
Your Facebook Page connected to Pipeline Funnels (go to Settings → Integrations → Facebook & Instagram)
A keyword or phrase people will comment (like "DROPS", "INFO", or "YES")
Your lead magnet or offer ready (discount code, PDF, video link, etc.)
About 10-15 minutes to set everything up

Don't have a Facebook Business Page yet? No worries—you can create one in about 5 minutes right from your personal Facebook account. Search "create Facebook business page" in Facebook's help center.

Complete Setup Process (10-15 Minutes)

Step 1: Start with a Recipe Template (Easiest Way!)

Pipeline Funnels gives you a ready-made template that makes setup super fast. Think of it like a pre-built workflow you just customize with your details.

Navigate here:

  1. Click Automation in your left-hand menu

  2. Click + Create Workflow

  3. Choose "Start from Recipe"

  4. Search for "Facebook Comment Automation" or "DM"

  5. Click Use Recipe on the "Facebook Comment to DM" template

  6. Give it a clear name like:

    • "FB Comment - Slenderiiz DROPS Campaign"

    • "FB Comment - Nutrifii INFO Campaign"

  7. Click Create Workflow

That's it! You now have a starter workflow with the basic structure already built. Now we just customize it to your needs.

Step 2: Set Up Your Comment Trigger

This is where you tell Pipeline Funnels which post to watch and which word triggers the automation.

In your new workflow:

  1. At the top, you'll see the Trigger section (it might already be there from the recipe)

  2. Click Add Trigger (or edit the existing one)

  3. Select "Facebook - User comments on a post"

  4. A sidebar opens with options—here's what to set:

Choose Your Page:

  • Select your Facebook Business Page from the dropdown

  • This is the page Pipeline Funnels will monitor

Select Post Type:

  • Published Post: Choose this to pick from any post already on your page. Great if you're setting this up after posting.

  • Custom Post: Choose this to paste a specific post URL. Perfect for planning ahead or using on Facebook ads!

Choose Your Post:

  • If you selected "Published Post," scroll through your recent posts and click the one you want

  • If you selected "Custom Post," paste the Facebook post URL in the field

Set Your Keyword Trigger:

This is the magic part! You have two options:

  • Exact Match: Only triggers if they comment the EXACT word(s)

    • You set: "DROPS"

    • They comment: "DROPS" → ✅ Triggers

    • They comment: "drops" or "I want drops" → ❌ Doesn't trigger

  • Contains Phrase: Triggers if their comment includes your phrase anywhere

    • You set: "DROPS"

    • They comment: "DROPS" → ✅ Triggers

    • They comment: "I want DROPS please" → ✅ Triggers

    • They comment: "drops" (lowercase) → ❌ Doesn't trigger

💡 Pro tip: Start with "Exact Match" using simple, all-caps words like DROPS, INFO, or YES. It's clearer for your audience and prevents accidental triggers.

Optional Setting - First Level Comments Only:

Turn this toggle ON if you only want to respond to people commenting directly on your post (not replies to other people's comments). This is usually what you want—keeps things cleaner.

Save your trigger! Click the save or done button.

Step 3: Add a Public Comment Reply (Optional but Recommended)

This is the public message everyone sees when someone comments. It's short, friendly, and directs them to check their DMs.

Add this action:

  1. Click + Add Action below your trigger

  2. Select "Reply in Comments" (in the Communication category)

  3. Type your public response

Examples that work well:

  • "Check your DMs! 💬"

  • "Thanks for your interest! Sending you the info now 📲"

  • "Just sent you a message with all the details! 🎉"

  • "Got you! Check your Messenger 💚"

Pro feature: You can add up to 10 different reply variations, and Pipeline Funnels will randomly pick one each time. This makes it feel more natural and less robotic!

Like their comment too? Turn on the toggle to automatically like their comment when you reply. Nice touch for building rapport!

Save this action.

Step 4: Send the Private Messenger DM

This is where the real magic happens—the private message they receive with your offer, info, or lead magnet.

Add this action:

  1. Click + Add Action

  2. Select "Facebook Interactive Messenger" (in the Communication category)

  3. A sidebar opens with lots of options—let's break them down:

Reply Type:

  • Select "Reply to comment via DM" (this is for the FIRST message after someone comments)

  • Note: If you add MORE messages later in the workflow, those will use "Reply to DM" instead

Choose a Template (Optional):

  • If you've saved message templates in Marketing → Snippets, you can select one here

  • Or skip this and write your message from scratch

Write Your Message:

This is what they'll see in Messenger. Make it warm, helpful, and clear!

Example for Slenderiiz:

Hey {{contact.first_name}}! 👋 Thanks for commenting on my post! I'm so excited you want to learn about Slenderiiz drops.

Here's what makes them special: [brief value statement]

🎁 Special offer: Use code DROPS15 for 15% off your first order!

👉 Shop here: [your PartnerCo link]

Want to know more about how it worked for me? Just reply YES and I'll send you my story!

Personalization tip: Use {{contact.first_name}} in your message to automatically include their name. Makes it feel personal even though it's automated!

Add Attachments (Optional):

Want to send a PDF guide, before/after photo, or video?

  1. Click "Add Attachment"

  2. Upload a file from your computer OR paste a URL to a file online

  3. Common uses: Product info PDFs, transformation photos, video testimonials

Add Interactive Buttons (This Is Powerful!):

Buttons let people take action right in Messenger. You can add up to 3 buttons.

Click "Add New Button" and choose from:

  • Open Website: Sends them to your PartnerCo shopping link, funnel page, or calendar

    • Button text example: "Shop Now" or "Get 15% Off"

    • URL: Your PartnerCo product link or discount page

  • Call Number: Opens their phone dialer with your number

    • Button text example: "Call Me" or "Questions? Call Now"

    • Number: Your business phone

  • Perform Action: Creates a conversation branch for more automation

    • Button text example: "Send Me Your Story" or "I Have Questions"

    • This button leads to MORE workflow actions you set up

Example button setup for Slenderiiz:

  • Button 1: "Shop Slenderiiz" (Open Website → your product link)

  • Button 2: "Watch My Results Video" (Open Website → video page)

  • Button 3: "I Have Questions" (Perform Action → leads to more conversation)

Set Wait Time:

After sending your message, how long should Pipeline Funnels wait before moving to the "Default Branch" (what happens if they don't respond)?

  • Default is 1 minute (way too short!)

  • Set this to 1 day or 2 days to give them time to read and respond

  • This timer starts as soon as the message sends

Natural Delay Tip: Want to seem more human? Add a Wait Action BEFORE this message for 1-2 minutes. Makes the DM feel less instant and robotic.

Save this action!

Step 5: Build Conversation Branches (Optional but Powerful)

If someone clicks a button or replies to your message, you can send them MORE messages automatically. This is where Facebook automation really shines.

Example: The "Send Me Your Story" Button Branch

When someone clicks that button, send them another message:

  1. Click the button's branch in your workflow

  2. Add another Facebook Interactive Messenger action

  3. This time, set Reply Type to "Reply to DM"

  4. Write your next message—maybe your transformation story and another offer

Example follow-up message:

Here's my story...

I was struggling with [problem], tried everything, then found Slenderiiz. In 90 days, [result].

The best part? It was so much easier than I expected.

Ready to start your own journey? Click below!

Then add buttons again if you want—maybe "Yes, I'm Ready!" leads to a shopping link.

You can chain these together for entire conversations! Just remember: after each message, you need to wait for them to respond or click a button before sending the next one (that 24-hour window we mentioned).

Step 6: Handle the Default Branch

This is what happens if someone DOESN'T respond or click a button within your wait time.

Options:

  • Do nothing - Let them sit in your CRM and follow up manually later

  • Tag them - Add a tag like "FB - Interested but Didn't Respond" for follow-up

  • Send a gentle reminder - Add one more message like "Still interested? Just reply YES!"

  • Add to email sequence - Move them to an email follow-up workflow

Most people start simple: just tag them and follow up manually with the warm ones.

Step 7: Test and Activate

Before you announce this to your audience, TEST IT!

How to test:

  1. Ask a friend to comment your trigger word on your post

  2. Or use a second Facebook account you control

  3. Check that:

    • Public reply appears on the comment ✅

    • DM arrives in Messenger ✅

    • Buttons work correctly ✅

    • Contact appears in your Pipeline Funnels CRM ✅

Once testing looks good:

  1. Click the toggle in the top-right corner to turn your workflow ON

  2. Your automation is now LIVE! 🎉

Make your post and announce it! Tell people to comment your trigger word, and watch the automation work its magic.

Advanced Features You Should Know

Using Templates for Faster Setup

Save time by creating message templates in Marketing → Snippets. Then when setting up new campaigns, just select your template instead of rewriting messages.

Great for:

  • Your standard product pitch

  • Discount code messages

  • Your transformation story

  • Event details

Tagging Contacts Automatically

After someone triggers your automation, add a Tag action to organize them:

Example tags:

  • "FB Lead - Slenderiiz"

  • "Commented DROPS - November 2025"

  • "Hot Lead - Needs Follow-Up"

This helps you filter and follow up in your CRM later.

Multi-Step Conversations

You can build LONG conversation flows using the "Perform Action" button type. Each button clicked leads to new messages, more buttons, more questions.

Use cases:

  • Quiz-style product recommendations

  • Qualifying questions before offering a call

  • Educational sequences (Day 1 message → Day 2 message → Day 3 message)

Combining with Other Workflows

After someone becomes a contact through comment automation, you can:

  • Add them to email nurture sequences

  • Send them SMS follow-ups

  • Assign them to your sales pipeline

  • Create a task to call them

Example: Anyone who clicks "I Have Questions" gets tagged AND you get a task reminder to call them personally.

Works on Facebook Ads Too!

Running Facebook ads? This automation works on ad comments too!

  1. Choose "Custom Post" when setting up your trigger

  2. Paste your Facebook ad's post URL

  3. Now anyone who comments on your ad gets automated replies

Super powerful for turning ad engagement into leads!

Important Technical Details

Timing Windows (Don't Miss These!)

7-Day Window for Initial DM: After someone comments, you have 7 days to send them that first "Reply to comment via DM" message. After 7 days, Facebook blocks it. (This rarely matters since your automation sends instantly!)

24-Hour Conversation Window: Once you send a DM, you have 24 hours to send follow-up messages. After 24 hours, you need them to respond before you can message again. This is a Facebook rule, not a Pipeline Funnels limitation.

Solution: Use buttons to keep the conversation going within 24 hours, or let them move to email/SMS follow-up after the window closes.

Contact Creation and Data

What gets saved automatically:

  • First name (from their Facebook profile)

  • Last name (from their Facebook profile)

  • Facebook Messenger ID (for future messaging)

  • The comment they made

  • Which post they commented on

  • Timestamp of when they engaged

What does NOT get saved automatically:

  • Email address (you need to ask for it in your conversation)

  • Phone number (you need to ask for it)

Duplicate Comment Handling

Question: What if someone comments the trigger word twice on the same post?

Answer: Your workflow settings control this:

  • Run once per contact: They only trigger the automation the FIRST time they comment

  • Run every time: They trigger it each time they comment the keyword

Most people use "run once per contact" to avoid annoying repeat messages.

Deleted Comment Behavior

If someone comments, triggers your automation, then deletes their comment—the automation still completes. They still get the DM and become a contact. The automation doesn't "reverse" itself.

Best Practices for Success

Keep trigger words short and obvious. "DROPS", "INFO", "CODE", "YES" work great. Avoid long phrases like "send me information about your products" (too easy to misspell).

Use all-caps for trigger words. Makes them crystal clear in your post. "Comment DROPS below" is clearer than "Comment drops below."

Make your public reply warm but brief. A simple "Check your DMs! 💬" works perfectly. Don't over-explain publicly.

Front-load value in your DM. Lead with what they get, not your life story. "Here's your 15% off code: SAVE15" beats "Hi! My name is Sarah and I wanted to tell you about..."

Use buttons strategically. Don't overwhelm with 3 buttons if 1 would do. Each button should have a clear, different purpose.

Test before announcing. Always test with a friend's comment before posting to your whole audience.

Don't be afraid to follow up manually. Automation starts the conversation, but YOU close the sale. Jump in personally when someone seems hot!

Check your messages regularly. Even with automation, people will reply with questions. Check Messenger daily (or use the LeadConnector mobile app for notifications).

Pause campaigns when you need a break. Going on vacation? Pause your workflow so you're not collecting leads you can't follow up on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Facebook Business Page or can I use my personal profile?

You need a Facebook Business Page. Personal profiles don't support automation—this is a Facebook rule, not a Pipeline Funnels limitation. Good news: creating a Business Page takes 5 minutes and it's free!

What if someone comments close to my trigger word but misspells it?

If you use "Exact Match," misspellings won't trigger the automation. If you use "Contains Phrase," it depends—"DROPS" would catch "DROPS" but not "drops" or "DROP". You can create multiple trigger words in the same workflow to catch variations.

Can I have one automation work for multiple posts?

Yes! When setting up your trigger, select "Published Post" but don't choose a specific post. Your automation will work on ALL posts on your page. Just be careful—any comment containing your trigger word will activate it.

How many buttons can I add?

Up to 3 buttons per message. If you need more options, send another message with more buttons after they click the first one.

Can I send videos or images in the DM?

Yes! Use the "Add Attachment" feature to upload files or paste URLs. Common formats: JPG, PNG, MP4, PDF. Keep file sizes reasonable for mobile loading.

What happens if I edit my workflow after it's running?

Changes apply immediately to NEW comments. Existing conversations that already started won't change. Example: If someone already got your DM yesterday and you edit the message today, they won't get the new version.

Can I see who triggered the automation?

Absolutely! Go to Contacts in Pipeline Funnels and filter by the tag you added, or just search for recent contacts. You'll see everyone who came through your automation, complete with their Facebook profile info.

Will people know it's automated?

Smart users might guess it's automated (and that's okay!). The instant response gives it away a bit. But here's the thing: nobody cares if they're getting VALUE. A helpful automated message beats a manual reply 3 days later every time.

What if I want to stop the automation?

Click the toggle in your workflow to turn it OFF. New comments won't trigger it, but existing conversations continue. To fully stop everything, delete the workflow.

Can I use this for recruiting instead of product sales?

Absolutely! Just change your messaging to focus on the business opportunity instead of products. Example trigger: "PARTNER" → Send info about becoming a brand partner.

Does this cost extra or use my Pipeline Funnels message limits?

Facebook Messenger messages through automation are included in all Pipeline Funnels plans—no extra charge. You don't pay per message or per contact. Your regular subscription covers it!
